What Is Qigong?
Qigong is an ancient Chinese practice that combines gentle movement, breathing, and meditation to support physical and mental well-being. Pronounced “chee-gong,” the word roughly means “energy cultivation.”
The word is made up of two ideas:
Qi (Chi): life energy or vital force
Gong: skill developed through practice
A typical qigong practice includes slow, flowing movements paired with deep breathing and focused attention. The goal is to help calm the mind, improve body awareness, and encourage balance and relaxation.
Many people practice qigong to:
Reduce stress
Improve flexibility and balance
Increase focus and mental clarity
Support overall wellness
Qigong is often compared to Tai Chi because both use slow, mindful movement. However, qigong is generally simpler and easier for beginners to learn.
One reason qigong remains popular today is its accessibility. The movements are low-impact, require no special equipment, and can be practiced by people of many ages and fitness levels.
In a fast-paced world, qigong offers something simple: a chance to slow down, breathe deeply, and reconnect with the body and mind
