What to Expect at Your First Pilates Class
Thinking about trying Pilates but feeling a little nervous? We get it!
Walking into a new studio can feel intimidating when you don't know what to expect. But here's the good news: you don't need any Pilates experience to get started.
At The Good Life Fitness Studio in Randolph, NJ, we welcome beginners and meet you exactly where you are.
What Should I Wear?
Keep it simple! Wear comfortable, fitted workout clothes that allow you to move freely. Grip socks are recommended, and you won't need sneakers for most Pilates classes.
And don't worry about looking the part—just come ready to move.
What Happens During Class?
Your instructor will guide you through the exercises, explain the movements, and offer modifications when needed. You'll work on things like:
Core strength
Balance and stability
Flexibility
Posture and alignment
Full-body strength
Pilates focuses on controlled, intentional movement, so don't be surprised if small movements leave your muscles shaking!
What If I've Never Done Pilates Before?
That's completely fine!
You don't need to know the exercises, understand the equipment, or be particularly flexible or strong. Your instructor will guide you through it.
You'll also see people at different experience levels. Try not to compare yourself—focus on your own body and your own progress.
Is Pilates Hard?
Pilates can definitely be challenging, but you control the intensity. Your instructor can modify exercises to make them easier or more challenging based on your experience.
And remember: you don't have to get everything right on your first class.
Ready to Try Beginner Pilates?
If you've been thinking about trying Pilates, take this as your sign.
You don't have to be fit to start. You don't have to be flexible. You don't have to know what you're doing.
You just have to show up.

Your first class might feel new—but it could be the start of something really good.
